LIBERTY IN CHRIST

Often Christians don't understand what it means to have Liberty in Christ and that we are not under the law anymore but under grace and the guidance of the Spirit.

The moment we try to do everything right and set a lot of must and must not's for ourselves or for others, we are actually rejecting God's work that He has already done for us through Christ's crucifiction. You cannot save yourself through doing the right things, only God can save.

Let's look at a few verses relevant to this:

Luk 10:25 Then an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. He said, "Teacher, what must I do to get eternal life?"

Luk 10:26 Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? What do you understand from it?"

Luk 10:27 The man answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.' Also, 'Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself.'"

Luk 10:28 Jesus said, "Your answer is right. Do this and you will have eternal life."

It clearly says that what God is looking for is people that are totally and completely committed to Him and have love in their hearts for others. Because God is love, if He lives in you, you will have love.

See in the verses below the difference before Christ's death on the cross for us and there after.

Joh 1:17 That is, the law was given to us through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Rom 8:2 That is because in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit that brings life made you free. It made you free from the law that brings sin and death.

Gal 2:21 I am not the one destroying the meaning of God's grace. If following the law is how people are made right with God, then Christ did not have to die.

Gal 3:13 The law says we are under a curse for not always obeying it. But Christ took away that curse. He changed places with us and put himself under that curse. The Scriptures say, "Anyone who is hung on a tree is under a curse."

Take note that this verse makes it clear that when we were under the law we had to obey it always, not being under the law anymore thus means that we are not binded by the law anymore to do as it says always. God’s grace has taken its place.

Gal 3:21 Does this mean that the law works against God's promises? Of course not. The law was never God's way of giving new life to people. If it were, then we could be made right with God by following the law.

Gal 3:23 Before this faith came, the law held us as prisoners. We had no freedom until God showed us the way of faith that was coming.

Note that it refers here to the freedom we have now in Christ since we are not under the law anymore.

Gal 4:21 Some of you people want to be under the law. Tell me, do you know what the law says?

He is making it clear that if you choose to be under one law then you should know the law as you then should adhere to the whole law.

Gal 5:3 Again, I warn everyone: If you allow yourselves to be circumcised, then you must follow the whole law.

Gal 5:4 If you try to be made right with God through the law, your life with Christ is finished--you have left God's grace.

In Gal 5: 4 it makes it very clear that it is either the law or God’s grace, you can’t have both. There is not something like the best of both worlds here. The one excludes the other!

Gal 5:18 But if you let the Spirit lead you, you are not under law.

Gal 5: 18 give us the alternative for being under the law very clearly. We all know that evil and sin is a reality. Thus if we are not under the law anymore how are we suppose to know what we should or shouldn’t do, what God expects of us and how to know what sin is? The clear alternative to the law and knowing what God expect of us is to be led by the Spirit. When Jesus ascended to heaven He said that He sends us His Spirit and this is exactly the reason why, to comfort us and lead us. If you have a set of rules that guide you, you don’t need the Spirit to guide you. Once more it is the one or the other, not both!

Jas 1:25 But he who looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Jas 2:12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty.

The law of liberty refers to the liberty we received from the law when we were made free by Christ and put under grace. That is why we refer to this discussion about the difference between before Christ’s death and after Christ’s death and resurrection as legalism vs liberty.

Rom 5:19 One man disobeyed God and many became sinners. But in the same way, one man obeyed God and many will be made right.

Rom 5:20 The law was brought in so that more people would sin the way Adam did. But where sin increased, there was even more of God's grace.

Rom 5:21 Sin once used death to rule us. But God gave us more of his grace so that grace could rule by making us right with him. And this brings us eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Reaching the higher dimention of faith.

Bible Scriptures (NKJV)

Matt 9: 20-22: “And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.
For she said to herself; "If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well." But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, "Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour.”

Matt 17: 20 says: “So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Mc 11: 24 says: “For this reason I say to you, All things whatsoever ye pray for and ask, believe that ye receive it, and it shall come to pass for you.”

Many people have faith, others speak about faith but they never reached a higher dimension of faith.

Faith is a very important thing in Christianity. You can only speak about Faith in Jesus. Without Christ and out of him there is no faith. We cannot get confuse between the courage and faith.

Even the disciples, when they wanted to ask for something from Christ in 3 years that they’ve spends with him, they had asked only for two things which are:
•    Teach us how to pray and
•    Add our Faith.

They knew that, these two things were very important in Christianity. If you have them in your life, you have everything you need.

So today we are talking about reaching the higher dimension of faith.

Each and every speaker can define faith the way he wants it, but this is among the things that God himself has defined in the Bible.

The Bible says: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Heb 11: 1.

In life we need to add our faith and reach it higher dimension. For faith is the only thing that can please God says the word of God.

Faith is made out of these 4 things:

1.    The decision
In life sometime things are not going well. Men of faith cannot seat back and start admiring what is happening and consider it as a normal situation. No, things will never change like that; one has to take a decision.
No one can come to Christ without taking a decision. It was a matter of decision for us to give our lives and youth time to Christ and start following him.

The decision comes from realizing the stage of life you are living.  Check yourself and see what is not good in you or what is not going well with you, than take a decision.

This woman in the book of Matthew 9, first she has realized that my life condition is not good, than she has taken a decision to follow Christ and touch is robe. If she didn’t take a decision, she was going to remain in the same condition.

2.    The confession
Confession is a link between what we have decided and what we are saying.

There is a power in the word. As God new the value of the Word that is why he created the world with the word only.
The word was given to man only not to animals although we have been created all from God. We are creatures of God.

What makes a difference between a men and an animal are:
•    A men can think, but an animal cannot
•    A men can speak, but not an animal

There are people who take decisions well, but cannot confess their decisions. Others they confess things without taking decisions.

The only way you can overcome the devil is by confessing your faith in Christ and by confessing your victory.
Revelation 12: 11 say: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”

You have to advertize your Jesus, tell people what Jesus is for you and what he has done in your life.

Why do we have to confess? Hebrews 6: 9: “But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner.”

3.    The act
The bible says: “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” James 2: 26.

The bleeding woman did not only take a decision, confess and stay at one place, she act according to her words. She went and touched the garment of Jesus Christ.

Many of Christians today they just confess but not acting.
•    They intercede to god and believe for wing souls, but they are not going to evangelize.
•    They are praying for new job and better job opportunities, but are not submitting their C.V.
•    The want the church to look beautiful and have nice equipment, but are not contributing financially for the buying of these things.
•    They are confessing having power over demons, but are not using their authority.

Link also your word to your acts. God has is part and you also have yours. Stand up and do something. Gods is with you.
God is about to do something but he is waiting for you. You need to be blessed but cannot give.

4.    Perseverance.

Habakkuk 2: 3 says: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

Perseverance is very important in everything we do, it is also one of the spiritual fruit that a Christian nee in his Christian life. Sometime things are becoming very heard in life; you wait to see the fulfilment of promises but nothing is happening; you can pray and fast every week but you don’t see any sign which can show you that God is hearing your prayer; you can do anything to please the world but your enemies are becoming much and seems to be stronger than you; you seek but you don’t found; you knock at the door but there is no one to open; you ask but you don’t get any answer.

But one thing you shall know is “God’s silence is not his absence!”

Sometimes he gives time to our enemies to complete their task and finish their strategies so that when he stands up, no one else can have access to your life. When he opens doors no one can shut them up; when he blesses no one can curs you. Just persevere, wait for God’s time in your life; his promises will surely come to pass, they will not tarry. By doing so, you are reaching a higher dimension of FAITH.

Faith is was Jesus Christ will need to find in us he’ll retain to fetch
Christians as it was written in the book of Luc 18: 8 “…Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

The Lord Jesus want us to keep our faith firm that is why he told Simon "But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren." Luc 22: 32.
